Trump Administration to Unveil 'Economic Isolation' Strategy for Iran Next Week

The Trump administration is preparing to announce what Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent called unprecedented economic measures against Iran next week. Bessent said the measures would be part of a broader strategy alongside the US blockade of Iranian ports, aimed at increasing financial pressure on Tehran and forcing it to make concessions. Iran’s economy has already been weakened by the conflict, sanctions and reduced oil exports. Tehran has previously endured extensive US sanctions without abandoning its nuclear ambitions or its position on the Strait of Hormuz. The strategic waterway remains a major point of tension, carrying around one-fifth of global oil and gas shipments. Any further disruption could affect oil prices and global energy markets.
