India's First C-295 Rollout Set for September 2026, Boosting Ties With Spain

India’s first indigenously assembled C-295 military transport aircraft will roll out from Vadodara before September 2026, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar announced. The project, under the ‘Make in India’ initiative, highlights strong India-Spain defence collaboration, with 40 of the 56 aircraft in the ₹21,935 crore deal to be assembled domestically. During a meeting with Spanish Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares, Jaishankar also discussed trade, culture, and global challenges, including terrorism. Bilateral trade exceeds $8 billion, and both nations are expanding economic, cultural, and technological ties. The Vadodara facility, a joint venture between TATA Advanced Systems and Airbus, modernises India’s transport fleet and strengthens the Indian Air Force, while Spain contributes through technology transfer and skill development, supporting India’s self-reliant defence goals.
