Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday reaffirmed India's commitment to implementing the BIMSTEC Convention to combat terrorism, organised crime and illegal drug trafficking. Addressing the first BIMSTEC Home Ministers' Meeting in New Delhi, he stressed the importance of regional cooperation to tackle cross-border criminal networks. Shah described BIMSTEC as a key platform for regional integration, economic cooperation and collective security. He also emphasised India's commitment to peace, national sovereignty and the peaceful resolution of disputes. BIMSTEC comprises seven countries—India, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Myanmar and Thailand—and represents around 1.7 billion people, or 22 per cent of the global population.
