Chinese authorities detained dozens of pastors from one of the country’s largest underground churches over the weekend, marking the biggest crackdown on Christians since 2018. Pastor Jin Mingri, founder of the unofficial Zion Church, was arrested in Beihai on charges of “illegal use of information networks,” carrying up to seven years in prison. Around 20 pastors remain in custody amid concerns over their health and access to lawyers. The crackdown follows new rules banning unauthorized online preaching and comes amid heightened China-US tensions.
