Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Monday said that although Artificial Intelligence is transforming healthcare, it cannot replace the compassion and empathy that doctors provide. Speaking at the 22nd convocation of King George's Medical University in Lucknow, he urged young doctors to combine technological expertise with a humane approach to patient care. He said emerging technologies such as AI, gene editing, synthetic biology, and precision medicine are reshaping medical science, making continuous learning essential for healthcare professionals. However, he stressed that while AI can analyse data and support diagnosis, it cannot comfort patients or understand their emotional pain. Calling the preservation of life a doctor's highest duty, Singh encouraged medical graduates to serve with sensitivity, dedication, and compassion.
