The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has officially confirmed that the IPL 2026 final will be held at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, replacing Bengaluru, which was earlier considered a strong contender to host the marquee match. According to the BCCI’s clarification, the decision was taken after evaluating multiple logistical and operational factors that are critical for hosting a high-profile final. These include stadium capacity, crowd management capabilities, broadcast infrastructure, and overall event execution readiness.

The Narendra Modi Stadium, known as the largest cricket stadium in the world, offers a seating capacity of over one lakh spectators. This makes it a preferred venue for high-demand matches, especially finals that attract global attention and massive in-stadium attendance. The stadium has previously hosted major international fixtures, including ICC events and IPL playoff matches, which further strengthened its case.

While Bengaluru’s M. Chinnaswamy Stadium remains one of the most iconic cricket venues in India with a passionate fan base, the BCCI reportedly leaned toward Ahmedabad due to its larger capacity and modern facilities, which allow for smoother coordination of security, hospitality, and broadcasting operations on a large scale. Officials also indicated that venue selection for IPL knockout matches and finals is planned well in advance to ensure fairness and logistical efficiency across hosting cities. Rotation policies and infrastructure readiness often play a key role in such decisions.

Fans in Bengaluru have expressed disappointment over missing out on the final, but the BCCI emphasized that venue allocations are made in the best interest of the tournament’s scale and global reach. With Ahmedabad once again set to host a major cricketing spectacle, anticipation is building for a high-energy final that is expected to draw record attendance and worldwide viewership.
