A tragic incident took place aboard a moving train in Uttar Pradesh when Arti Yadav, the wife of an Indian Navy officer, died after a confrontation with Travelling Ticket Examiner (TTE) Santosh Kumar. Arti, who was travelling to Delhi for medical reasons, accidentally boarded the wrong train from Kanpur Central on November 26, 2025. She had a valid ticket for another delayed train but ended up in the sleeper coach of the Patna–Anand Vihar special.

Around two hours into the journey, the TTE checked her ticket and asked her to shift to the general coach. What happened next remains contested. Arti was later found dead near Bharthana station, separated from her luggage by several kilometres. Her phone was missing, and she had severe injuries, raising questions about whether she fell or was pushed.

Her family, including her husband Ajay Singh, allege that the TTE threw her belongings out and then pushed her off the moving train during the heated argument. They question the sudden changes in witness statements, especially after one passenger reportedly complained to the railway helpline. In contrast, multiple co-passengers told officials that Arti became upset, threatened to jump, threw out her Aadhaar card, picked up her bag, and leapt from the coach on her own.

Based on her father’s complaint, the Government Railway Police in Etawah has registered a case of culpable homicide against the TTE, though he has not been arrested yet. Early findings indicate she may have jumped, but investigators are still reviewing statements, checking CCTV footage, and analysing the distance between her body and belongings. The incident has renewed concerns about railway safety, particularly how staff handle boarding mistakes and conflicts in crowded trains. The Navy has extended condolences and is assisting with the inquiry, while Arti’s family continues to demand a thorough and transparent investigation.
