Tripura: Assam Rifles and DRI confiscate Yaba tablets valued at Rs 45 crore, one person arrested.

In a significant anti-drug operation at Gen A. Mungiakami, the Assam Rifles, in coordination with the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence DRI, seized a massive consignment of Yaba tablets. According to an official statement, around 4,50,000 Yaba tablets valued at Rs 45 crore were recovered from a Tata truck bearing registration number AS-01T-C7674. One person was arrested and later handed over to DRI for further investigation.

Earlier, acting on intelligence inputs about drug trafficking in Khowai district, Assam Rifles and DRI carried out another joint operation. During the late-night operation on 24 January 2026 along National Highway 8, officials apprehended a resident of Karimganj, Assam, who was transporting 1,60,000 Yaba tablets worth Rs 16 crore. The Tata truck used for transporting the narcotics was also seized, and further inquiries are underway. The Assam Rifles continues to lead anti-narcotics efforts in the region, regularly conducting operations to dismantle drug networks. Officials described the seizure as a major success in the fight against drug trafficking, particularly ahead of Republic Day celebrations.

In a separate incident, based on credible intelligence, Assam Rifles conducted an operation near Ngur in Champhai district of Mizoram. During the operation, they intercepted a Kenbo motorcycle rider and recovered 2.2 kg of Methamphetamine tablets, a highly potent psychotropic substance estimated to be worth Rs 6.6 crore in the international market. The individual, identified as Lalhmangaihzuala, was arrested. The recovered contraband and the accused were handed over to the Excise and Narcotics Department in Champhai for further investigation and legal proceedings.
