The swearing-in ceremony for Assam's next Chief Minister is scheduled to take place in Guwahati on May 12.

Assam Chief Secretary Ravi Kota chaired a high-level review meeting with the state DGP to evaluate preparations for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to attend the swearing-in ceremony of the newly elected Council of Ministers. The event is scheduled for May 12 at the Veterinary College Field in Guwahati.
In a post on X, Ravi Kota stated that the ceremony is expected to witness the presence of several Chief Ministers, Deputy Chief Ministers, Union Ministers, and prominent industry representatives from across the country. He further noted that detailed discussions were held regarding security arrangements, traffic control, venue preparedness, protocol measures, and coordination among departments. Officials were instructed to ensure flawless execution, strict compliance with protocols, and close cooperation between all stakeholders so the event is conducted smoothly and securely.
Bharatiya Janata Party leader Dilip Saikia informed ANI that Union Minister JP Nadda and Nayab Singh Saini will arrive in Guwahati on May 9 as central observers to oversee the selection of the BJP Legislature Party leader in Assam. Saikia said the BJP Legislature Party meeting will take place on May 10 in Guwahati, followed by an NDA meeting in the presence of the central observers.
Caretaker Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma submitted his resignation, paving the way for the formation of a new cabinet after the BJP-led alliance’s decisive electoral win. Sarma also confirmed that BJP National President JP Nadda had appointed himself and Nayab Singh Saini as observers to supervise the process of selecting Assam’s next Chief Minister.
The resignation was formally handed over to Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya following the BJP-led NDA’s strong performance in the Assam Assembly elections, setting the stage for the alliance’s third consecutive government in the state. The NDA secured 102 seats in the Assembly, with the BJP winning 82 seats. Its allies, Asom Gana Parishad and Bodoland People's Front, won 10 seats each. On the opposition side, Indian National Congress-led Mitrajoot secured 19 seats, while Raijor Dal won 2 seats, Assam Jatiya Parishad failed to open its account, and All India United Democratic Front managed to win 2 seats.
