Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday addressed the inaugural ceremony of the Indian Navy’s Joint Services Multi-Speciality Medical Camp in Lakshadweep via video conference. He stated that the large-scale medical camp, organized by the Indian Navy, demonstrates the Government of India’s commitment to providing quality healthcare in remote areas, in line with the vision of ‘Swasth Bharat’.

In a post on X, Singh shared a video clip, writing that the camp at Kavaratti highlights the government’s efforts to bring quality healthcare closer to citizens in isolated regions. He added that comprehensive screening, early diagnosis, timely medical advice, medical interventions, and free medicines will have long-term health benefits for the island community.

The five-day camp, running from January 12 to 16, aims to provide extensive medical care to Lakshadweep residents, including specialist consultations, treatment services, and select surgical procedures such as cataract surgery. This initiative is part of the Indian Navy’s ongoing efforts to enhance healthcare services in the island territory, conducted regularly as part of Navy Day outreach activities. Over the years, medical camps in Lakshadweep have included primary care and dental services across multiple islands. With advances in healthcare, continued support from the UT Administration, and strong local participation, the camp has now been upgraded to a multi-speciality program.

The camp will serve Agatti, Kavaratti, Androth, Amini, and Minicoy islands and will be conducted by a Joint Services Medical Team comprising experienced specialists and officers from the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force. The collaboration of all three Services ensures comprehensive and integrated healthcare delivery throughout the camp.
