Chaos unfolded near Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s official residence in Patna on Tuesday when police used batons to disperse teacher exam aspirants staging a sit-in. The protesters were demanding the release of supplementary results for the Teacher Recruitment Exam (TRE-3). The demonstration took place outside the gates of the CM’s residence at 1 Anne Marg, a high-security area where protests are prohibited. The protesters, holding placards, shouted slogans against the state government and the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC), which organized the exam.

Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Anu Kumari urged the protesters to leave the area due to the restrictions. When they refused, police resorted to baton charges. Officials, however, denied any injuries among the protesters, despite claims to the contrary. One protester, Kriti Dutta, explained they had been protesting for the past four months in Gardanibagh and had sought help from various officials, including ministers and MLAs, but had received no resolution. Another candidate mentioned that the education minister had assured them that a letter had been sent to BPSC, but no action had been taken.

Neither Patna District Magistrate Chandrashekhar Singh nor Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Awakash Kumar were available for comment on how the protesters entered the high-security area. The BPSC had conducted the teacher recruitment exam in March 2024, announcing 87,774 posts under TRE-3. However, only about 51,000 candidates have received appointment letters, and despite promises, the supplementary results have yet to be released.
