Major Pakistani military installations, including the strategic Nur Khan Airbase in Rawalpindi, were targeted in coordinated strikes by Afghan forces, marking a dramatic escalation in the ongoing conflict between Afghanistan and Pakistan. According to Afghan defence authorities, the strikes hit several key military facilities, including the 12th Corps headquarters in Quetta and military camps in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. Afghan officials described the operations as precise and coordinated, claiming they inflicted damage on critical Pakistani military infrastructure.

The strikes were reportedly carried out in retaliation for recent Pakistani air raids targeting Afghan cities, including the capital Kabul. Afghan authorities warned that any further military incursions would be met with swift and decisive responses. The escalation comes amid intensifying hostilities along the volatile border region, with both sides accusing each other of aggression. Pakistan had earlier claimed to have killed hundreds of Taliban fighters in cross-border operations, while Afghan officials said their forces had struck key Pakistani military positions in response.

Afghan authorities also claimed that their forces shot down a Pakistani fighter jet and captured its pilot, a claim strongly denied by Islamabad, which dismissed the allegation as false and part of misinformation.Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Asif accused Afghan Taliban forces of escalating tensions and undermining regional stability. In response, Pakistan launched retaliatory operations targeting multiple locations across Afghan territory, further intensifying the military confrontation.

The rapidly worsening conflict has raised alarm among international observers, who fear that continued escalation between the two neighbouring countries could destabilise the wider region. With both sides engaging in direct military strikes and issuing strong warnings, the risk of a prolonged and dangerous conflict remains high.
