Security agencies were placed on high alert after a suspected drone was sighted hovering over Nachna town near the India–Pakistan border in Rajasthan’s Jaisalmer district late Thursday night. The incident has heightened concerns over cross-border surveillance and potential security threats in the sensitive border region.

According to officials, the unidentified object was spotted twice at short intervals and appeared to remain airborne for some time before disappearing. Local residents first noticed unusual activity in the sky and alerted authorities, following which security forces initiated verification and monitoring procedures.

Soon after the sighting, border security units and local police intensified surveillance in the area. Standard operating procedures were activated, including increased patrolling and coordination among multiple agencies to assess the nature and origin of the object. While no immediate threat or payload was detected, officials said the incident was being treated seriously given the area’s proximity to the international border.

Security sources said efforts are underway to determine whether the object was a drone, and if so, whether it was engaged in reconnaissance or any other hostile activity. Technical inputs and radar data are being analysed as part of the ongoing investigation.

The Jaisalmer border region has witnessed heightened vigilance in recent years amid repeated incidents of drone sightings linked to smuggling and cross-border infiltration attempts. Authorities have reiterated that any violation of Indian airspace will be dealt with firmly.

Officials have urged residents in border areas to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activity. Investigations into Thursday night’s sighting are ongoing, and further details are expected once verification is complete.
