Ahead of the second phase of polling in West Bengal scheduled for April 29, Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) Director General Sanjay Singhal convened a high-level review meeting in Howrah to evaluate the overall preparedness for the electoral process. As per an official statement issued by the force, the meeting witnessed participation from district force coordinators, commandants, company commanders, and personnel from the Central Armed Police Forces. Senior officials, including the Inspector General of Frontier Siliguri and the Deputy Inspector General-cum-Nodal Officer of SSB, were also present.

During the meeting, the Director General placed strong emphasis on ensuring complete operational readiness and reiterated a strict zero-tolerance policy toward any form of electoral malpractice. He instructed all deployed personnel to work with vigilance and commitment to maintain a secure and fear-free atmosphere, enabling voters to exercise their democratic rights without intimidation. He further highlighted the importance of impartiality, discipline, and alertness, while directing strict adherence to the guidelines laid down by the Election Commission of India.

The second phase of polling in West Bengal will cover 142 constituencies, with campaigning having concluded earlier this week. The first phase recorded an impressive voter turnout of 93.2 percent, marking a significant level of public participation. This high turnout has prompted both the Trinamool Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party to express confidence in their respective electoral prospects.

The substantial voter engagement reflects an active and vibrant democratic process, conducted under tight security arrangements across polling areas. Authorities are continuing efforts to ensure smooth and peaceful voting in the upcoming phase. The counting of votes is scheduled to take place on May 4, alongside results for Assam, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Puducherry.
