Rahul, Priyanka Gandhi's 'Sting' Moment Goes Viral Amid PepsiCo Court Battle

A video showing Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra sharing a drink during a protest in New Delhi has gone viral on social media, drawing attention amid PepsiCo’s ongoing legal battle over the labelling of its energy drinks in India. The video, which surfaced on social media on October 6, shows Rahul Gandhi offering a red-coloured drink to Priyanka Gandhi as opposition leaders and MPs gathered during a protest against the Election Commission.
Priyanka Gandhi is seen taking the drink from her brother before having a sip. The informal exchange quickly attracted attention online, with several social media users identifying the beverage as Sting, a PepsiCo energy drink. The brand of the drink cannot be conclusively established from the available footage, as the product label is not clearly visible.
The timing of the video has also generated interest because PepsiCo is currently involved in a legal dispute concerning the use of the term “energy drink” on certain high-caffeine beverages sold in India. The company, along with Monster Beverage, recently approached the Delhi High Court challenging directions from the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) concerning the labelling of such products.
The companies have argued that the regulatory directions could have significant commercial implications. The Delhi High Court has granted interim relief to PepsiCo and Monster while the legal dispute is being considered. Sting, which is sold by PepsiCo in India, has become a widely recognised beverage brand in the country's rapidly expanding energy-drink market. Its relatively low price has also helped it gain a significant consumer base.
The viral video involving Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi emerged separately from the court proceedings and there is no indication that the Congress leaders were commenting on PepsiCo's legal dispute. Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi were among opposition leaders participating in a protest in the national capital concerning the Election Commission. Their detention during the demonstration also became a major political talking point.
The drink-sharing moment, however, quickly shifted attention on social media, where users focused on the apparent identity of the beverage and its connection to the ongoing regulatory dispute involving PepsiCo. While the video has generated considerable online discussion, the precise brand of the drink should be treated as unconfirmed unless independently established. The PepsiCo court case, meanwhile, remains focused on India's regulatory requirements for the labelling and marketing of high-caffeine beverages.
