Rahul Gandhi on Saturday strongly reacted to the alleged rape and murder of a minor in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh, accusing the state government of failing to ensure justice and pointing to a recurring pattern of crimes against women. In a post on X, he claimed that the brutal killing of a girl from the Vishwakarma community was followed by threats and violence aimed at preventing the family from filing an FIR. Drawing parallels with earlier cases such as Hathras, Kathua, and Unnao, he said these incidents reflect a disturbing trend. He also mentioned a victim from Manipur who died while waiting for justice.

Alleging systemic discrimination, Gandhi said that victims are often from marginalised communities, including Dalit, backward, tribal, or poor backgrounds, while those accused receive protection. He criticised what he described as silence from those in power and questioned the moral authority of a government where families must struggle even to register complaints.

He called for strict action, including accountability for police officials, protection for the victim’s family, and a high-level investigation to ensure swift justice. Addressing Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister, he questioned why women continue to feel unsafe under their governance, adding that justice in such cases must be firmly pursued.

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra also criticised the central government, accusing it of failing to address rising crimes against women. Referring to the Ghazipur case and similar incidents in Unnao, Hathras, and Prayagraj, she alleged that authorities often side with the accused rather than supporting victims. She further claimed that statements made about women’s safety lack real action.

The case involves a minor girl who went missing on April 14 from a village in Ghazipur and was found dead the next morning near a bridge over the Ganga River. Police have registered an FIR, arrested the main accused based on information from the victim’s relatives, and said that further investigation is ongoing.
