PM Modi to Unveil Projects Worth Rs 35,000 Crore in Gujarat Today

Vadodara, September 8, 2026: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Vadodara on Tuesday to inaugurate, dedicate and lay the foundation stones for a series of development projects worth more than ₹35,000 crore. The projects span railway infrastructure, freight connectivity, highways, urban development and renewable energy, giving a major push to Gujarat's transport and economic infrastructure.

A key part of the Prime Minister's programme is the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor (WDFC). Modi is scheduled to dedicate three sections of the corridor covering around 326 route kilometres, involving an investment of more than ₹20,700 crore. The completion of these sections is expected to strengthen freight connectivity between major industrial centres and ports and improve the efficiency of goods transportation across western India.

The Western Dedicated Freight Corridor is designed specifically for freight movement, allowing goods trains to operate with fewer restrictions from passenger traffic. The newly completed sections will provide connectivity towards the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority, strengthening the link between industrial and manufacturing centres and one of India's important maritime gateways.

The Prime Minister will also lay the foundation stones for three railway projects covering approximately 329 kilometres at a combined estimated cost of more than ₹9,700 crore. These projects include additional railway lines on the Vadodara-Ratlam route, gauge conversion work between Miyagam Karjan and Choranda-Malsar, and doubling of the Vishwamitri-Dabhoi section. The planned railway expansion is expected to increase capacity on important routes connecting Gujarat with Madhya Pradesh. Additional tracks can help accommodate growing passenger and freight demand while reducing pressure on existing railway infrastructure.

Another significant project is the Jobat-Tanda Road railway line, which forms part of the Chhota Udepur-Dhar railway project. The line is expected to improve rail connectivity for parts of Alirajpur and surrounding tribal areas, giving residents better access to larger towns and markets and potentially supporting economic activity in the region.

Road infrastructure will also feature prominently during the visit. Three National Highway projects with a combined estimated investment of around ₹1,780 crore are scheduled to be launched. The works include improvements on NH-48 and NH-53, including widening and construction of major structures at important locations. The projects are expected to improve traffic movement and address congestion on key commercial routes.

Gujarat-level projects worth around ₹2,600 crore are also part of the programme. These include the second phase of the Vadodara Ring Road and a 110 MW floating solar power project at Kadana Dam. The renewable-energy project is expected to add to Gujarat's growing solar power capacity while making use of the water body's surface for electricity generation. During his visit, Modi is also scheduled to interact with young people in Vadodara. The interaction is expected to focus on India's youth and their role in areas such as innovation, entrepreneurship, technology and economic development.

The infrastructure announcements come at a time when Gujarat continues to strengthen its position as one of India's major industrial and logistics hubs. Better rail and road connectivity, combined with dedicated freight infrastructure, can help industries move raw materials and finished goods more efficiently and improve links with domestic and international markets. After completing his engagements in Gujarat, Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to travel to Mumbai, where he will inaugurate the Global Fintech Fest 2026. The Gujarat programme, however, will remain focused largely on transport and infrastructure development, with projects worth more than ₹35,000 crore set to be inaugurated, dedicated or initiated during the visit.
