Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Punjab on Sunday, February 1. According to an official statement, he will arrive at Adampur Airport around 3:45 PM to unveil its new name, “Sri Guru Ravidas Ji Airport, Adampur.” On the same day, he will also inaugurate the Terminal Building at Halwara Airport in Ludhiana. The renaming of Adampur Airport coincides with the 649th birth anniversary of Sant Guru Ravidas Ji, honoring the saint and social reformer whose teachings on equality, compassion, and human dignity continue to inspire India.

The new terminal at Halwara Airport aims to boost Punjab’s aviation infrastructure, serving Ludhiana and the surrounding industrial and agricultural regions. Halwara, located in Ludhiana district, also houses a strategically significant Indian Air Force station. The terminal features a longer runway capable of accommodating larger aircraft like the A320, unlike the earlier smaller airport at Ludhiana.

Reflecting the Prime Minister’s focus on sustainable and eco-friendly development, the terminal includes LED lighting, insulated roofing, rainwater harvesting, sewage and water treatment systems, and recycled water for landscaping. Its architecture draws inspiration from Punjab’s rich cultural heritage, offering passengers a unique regional experience.

Bharatiya Janata Party Punjab President Sunil Jakhar highlighted that Modi’s visit to Dera Ballan is significant, emphasizing the Prime Minister’s respect for Guru Ravidas and the sentiments of Punjab’s people. Jakhar noted that the visit coincides with the presentation of the Union Budget, showing the importance Modi places on faith and reverence. He urged that the visit be seen as an act of respect and inclusion rather than political strategy.

Jakhar stated that the renaming of Adampur Airport had already been announced and that Modi will formally implement it during the visit, also paying respects at the Dera. He described the move as a gesture recognizing a community he claimed had been overlooked by the Congress, highlighting it as an inclusive initiative for society.
