The Department-related Parliamentary Standing Committee on Home Affairs has rescheduled its upcoming meeting to November 2 to seek the views of the governments of Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu and Keralam on the issue of crimes against children. The meeting was previously scheduled for October 27. According to an official communication, the committee will convene at 11 am in the Parliament House complex. Members will also discuss and finalise subjects for examination during the 2026–27 term.

The revised programme provides separate sessions for representatives of the four state governments to present their perspectives on crimes against children. The schedule lists Uttar Pradesh at 11.30 am, Rajasthan at 12.30 pm, Tamil Nadu at 2.30 pm and Kerala at 3.30 pm. However, these timings correspond to the earlier October 27 programme and may be subject to revision following the change in the meeting date.

The committee has stated that the agenda papers will be circulated in due course and has requested its members to attend the meeting. Discussions with state representatives form part of the panel's broader examination of issues falling under the Home Affairs portfolio. Alongside the consultations, the committee will consider which subjects should be taken up for detailed examination during the 2026–27 term.

On September 23, the parliamentary panel met at the Parliament House complex to discuss crimes against children and the implementation of Centrally sponsored schemes in northeastern states. The proceedings were conducted in two separate sessions. The 31-member committee is chaired by BJP Rajya Sabha MP Radha Mohan Das Agarwal. It consists of 21 members from the Lok Sabha and 10 from the Rajya Sabha, representing several political parties.

Among its Rajya Sabha members are Haris Beeran of the Indian Union Muslim League, BJP MPs Samik Bhattacharya, Neeraj Shekhar and Tarun Chugh, Congress MP Ajay Maken, Trinamool Congress MP Derek O’Brien, Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut, Aam Aadmi Party MP Sanjay Singh and RJD MP Sanjay Yadav.

The Lok Sabha members include Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar, Anil Yeshwant Desai, Ashish Dubey, Satish Kumar Gautam, Naveen Jindal, Saumitra Khan, Jyotirmay Singh Mahato, B.Y. Raghavendra, Vishnu Dayal Ram and Kalaben Mohanbhai Delkar. The committee also includes Congress MPs Jai Parkash, Muhammed Hamdullah Sayeed, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and Amrinder Singh Raja Warring, along with representatives of the TDP, NCP (SP) and DMK, among others.

Of the 24 Department-related Parliamentary Standing Committees of the two Houses, eight—including the Committee on Home Affairs—function under the direction and control of the Rajya Sabha Chairman. The remaining 16 operate under the direction and control of the Lok Sabha Speaker. The upcoming discussions are expected to provide the committee with inputs from the four state governments as it examines issues related to child protection and determines its priorities for the next parliamentary term.
