Pakistan has successfully test-fired an extended-range variant of its Fatah-2 missile, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the media wing of the Pakistan military. The ISPR said the Fatah-2 Extended Range (ER) missile system incorporates advanced navigation technology and modern avionics, improving its operational performance and effectiveness.

According to the military, the missile is designed to strike designated targets with a high level of precision. Its specialised flight trajectory and manoeuvrability are intended to help it penetrate and evade opposing missile defence systems. The increased range of the Fatah-2 ER is expected to expand the Pakistan Army’s ability to engage targets farther from its territory, strengthening its long-range strike and deep-strike capabilities.

The test was observed by the Commander of the Army Rocket Force Command, senior Pakistan Army officials, and scientists and engineers involved in developing the missile system. Following the launch, the commander commended the technical expertise, commitment and efforts of the scientists and engineers responsible for the weapon’s development.

President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, and the service chiefs congratulated the teams involved in the successful test. The launch represents another step in Pakistan’s efforts to modernise its missile inventory, improve precision-strike capabilities and advance its domestic defence technology programmes.

The test also follows a recent development in the country’s missile programme: the reported successful trial of the extended-range variant of the indigenously developed Fatah-4 ground-launched cruise missile. The ISPR previously stated that the Fatah-4 features advanced avionics and modern navigation systems, enabling it to strike targets at greater distances with improved precision. Taken together, the Fatah-2 ER and Fatah-4 tests underscore Pakistan’s continued efforts to expand its long-range strike options, enhance targeting accuracy and develop capabilities intended to address increasingly sophisticated missile defence systems.
