Barrister Salman Safdar, the lawyer representing former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan, met Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, at Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi on Monday after months of limited access to the incarcerated couple. The meeting lasted approximately 40 minutes and marked Safdar’s first interaction with Imran Khan in nearly seven months. He had reportedly not been able to meet Bushra Bibi for around 11 months.

According to reports, the meeting took place at around 4:30 pm following repeated requests and applications seeking permission to meet the couple. Safdar later shared details of the interaction on social media platform X. During the meeting, Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi reportedly discussed their health, living conditions inside the prison and developments in their ongoing legal cases. They also provided instructions to their lawyer regarding pending court proceedings.

Safdar indicated that the 40-minute meeting was insufficient to cover all the matters requiring discussion, given the number of legal cases involving the former prime minister and his wife. The meeting comes amid continuing concerns raised by Khan's family and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders over restrictions on access to him at Adiala Jail. The party has repeatedly demanded regular meetings with Khan, including access for his lawyers and family members.

Imran Khan, who served as Pakistan's prime minister from 2018 to 2022, has been in prison since August 2023 and faces multiple legal cases. His wife, Bushra Bibi, has also been involved in several proceedings, including the Al-Qadir Trust case. Khan's health has remained a major concern for his family and supporters, particularly following reports of an eye-related medical condition. His legal team and relatives have sought appropriate medical attention and greater transparency regarding his treatment.

The PTI has consistently alleged that restrictions on meetings with Khan are politically motivated and has called for the implementation of court directions allowing access to the former prime minister. Pakistani authorities have rejected allegations of deliberately denying him basic facilities.

Monday's meeting is an important development for Khan's legal team, which has been seeking direct communication with him to discuss his defence and upcoming court proceedings. It remains unclear when Safdar will be permitted to meet the couple again. The question of regular access to Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi is likely to remain a key issue as their legal battles continue.
