Pakistan Police Arrest 35 Afghan Migrants in Peshawar Crackdown Amid Intensified Deportation Drive

Islamabad — Pakistan police have arrested 35 Afghan migrants during a series of raids and inspection operations in Peshawar, highlighting the government’s escalating crackdown on undocumented foreigners.
According to officials, law enforcement agencies conducted more than 40 search and inspection operations across different parts of the city over the past week. During these raids, dozens of undocumented Afghan nationals were detained, with many expected to face deportation proceedings.
Police also detained over 200 additional suspects during the broader crackdown and registered multiple cases related to criminal activity and immigration violations. Authorities said the operations were part of a wider effort to enforce residency laws, monitor tenant records, and strengthen internal security.
Officials further reported the recovery of illegal weapons and said legal action had been initiated against several individuals found in violation of local laws. The arrests are part of Pakistan’s ongoing nationwide campaign to identify and deport undocumented migrants, particularly Afghan nationals.
The crackdown has raised concerns among refugee advocates and humanitarian groups, who warn that aggressive enforcement measures could worsen the vulnerability of migrant communities. Many Afghan migrants have lived in Pakistan for years, and sudden arrests and deportations have left families facing uncertainty and hardship.
The intensified enforcement drive reflects Pakistan’s increasingly strict immigration policies, as authorities continue efforts to remove undocumented foreigners amid growing political and security pressures.
