North Korea's Kim pledges unwavering support for Russia during talks with Shoigu.

North Korean leader Kim Jong-un met with Sergei Shoigu, Secretary of Russia's Security Council, on Wednesday, June 4, according to North Korea’s state-run news agency KCNA. During their discussions, Kim expressed firm and unconditional support for Russia's stance on Ukraine and other international matters. KCNA reported Thursday that Kim reaffirmed North Korea’s intention to stand by Russia without reservation in the future, particularly in regard to Moscow's foreign policies and global positions.
“Kim Jong-un declared that the government of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea will continue to offer unconditional support to Russia’s policies and global stance,” KCNA stated, using the country’s official title. Kim also emphasized that North Korea would act responsibly in honoring the commitments outlined in a bilateral treaty between the two nations. The treaty includes provisions for military cooperation and was signed during Russian President Vladimir Putin's visit to Pyongyang the previous year, when he held a summit with Kim. One of its key clauses outlines mutual defense obligations, requiring both sides to provide immediate military support if either country is attacked.
In addition to reaffirming support for Russia, Kim and Shoigu explored ways to deepen the comprehensive strategic partnership between their nations. They discussed expanding mutual cooperation across multiple sectors, which could include military, economic, and diplomatic collaboration. This meeting highlights the growing alignment between Pyongyang and Moscow amid increasing global tensions and isolation from the West. As international sanctions continue to affect both countries, their strengthening relationship signals a more unified front against Western influence and a commitment to joint strategic goals on the world stage.
