BJP national president Nitin Nabin on Saturday chaired his first meeting with the party’s newly constituted national office-bearers, with discussions centred on election preparedness, strengthening grassroots engagement and taking government initiatives to the public, according to party sources. The meeting reviewed the BJP’s strategy for the upcoming state Assembly elections, along with plans to expand organisational outreach and strengthen mobilisation at the ground level.

Several more meetings are expected later in the day, with BJP state presidents, state in-charges and chief ministers from BJP-governed states likely to participate, sources said. The BJP unveiled Nabin’s new national team earlier this week. The 65-member organisational panel features 51 new faces, signalling a major restructuring of the party’s leadership.

The new team has 13 national vice presidents, among them former Rajasthan chief minister Vasundhara Raje Scindia and former RSS functionary Ram Madhav. Former Union minister Smriti Irani has also been appointed as one of the party’s eight national general secretaries. B L Santhosh will continue as national general secretary (organisation), while Vinod Tawde and Sunil Bansal have retained their positions as general secretaries.

The reshaped team includes 12 women and six leaders from minority communities. Union minister Piyush Goyal has returned as national treasurer, a position he previously held before joining the Union Cabinet in May 2014. The BJP has also made changes to its youth and digital wings. Amit Malviya has been replaced as head of the party’s IT department by Deepak Mhaskey of Chhattisgarh. Gujarat leader Hemang Joshi has been appointed president of the BJP Yuva Morcha, taking over from Lok Sabha MP Tejasvi Surya.

The large-scale organisational overhaul is the BJP’s most significant restructuring in more than a decade. The previous major exercise of this nature took place in 2015 under then party president Amit Shah. The latest changes have also triggered speculation that a reshuffle of the Union Cabinet could be on the cards.
