National Conference (NC) president Farooq Abdullah on Sunday strongly condemned the deadly bombing at a mosque in Pakistan’s capital, calling the attack a sign that people were “treading a path that leads to hellfire” and expressing deep sorrow over the loss of innocent lives.

His remarks came in response to a suicide blast at an Imambargah in Islamabad, which occurred during Friday prayers and killed several worshippers while injuring many others. The explosion at the mosque in the Tarlai area sent shockwaves across the city and triggered widespread condemnation.

Farooq Abdullah said attacks on places of worship were an assault on humanity and religion alike, stressing that violence in the name of ideology only leads to destruction. He conveyed condolences to the families of those killed and wished a speedy recovery to the injured.

The blast has once again highlighted Pakistan’s persistent struggle with militant violence and sectarian attacks, even in high-security urban centres. Authorities in Islamabad have launched an investigation and tightened security in sensitive areas following the incident.

Leaders and civil society groups across the region have denounced the attack, urging stronger measures to curb extremism and protect civilians. The incident has reignited concerns over the safety of religious minorities and worshippers in Pakistan amid recurring militant assaults.
