Mystery Deepens as Baloch Men Go Missing Amid Allegations of Secret Detentions in Balochistan

Growing concerns have emerged in Pakistan’s Balochistan after several individuals reportedly disappeared under suspicious circumstances, with families and activists alleging involvement of armed groups linked to security operations. According to local accounts, multiple people were reportedly picked up during raids in areas such as Panjgur and Karachi and taken to undisclosed locations, with no official information provided about their whereabouts. Eyewitnesses said armed men carried out searches and detained individuals, leaving families in distress and uncertainty.
Relatives of the missing persons have staged protests, displaying photographs and demanding answers from authorities. Families say they have received no communication or confirmation regarding the condition or location of their loved ones, intensifying fears of enforced disappearances. Among those reported missing are young men allegedly taken from public areas, including a 23 year old who was reportedly picked up from a market. Local residents claimed that individuals involved in the detentions were associated with groups described as “death squads,” which they allege operate with unofficial backing.
Human rights organisations have also raised alarm over cases where individuals were allegedly detained without formal warrants or documentation. In one instance, a student from Panjgur was reportedly taken from Karachi without legal procedures, further fuelling allegations of arbitrary detention. The incidents have reignited long standing concerns over enforced disappearances in Balochistan, a province that has witnessed decades of unrest and insurgency.
Families and activists continue to demand transparency, accountability and information about the missing persons.
The situation underscores ongoing tensions in the region, where allegations of secret detentions and unresolved disappearances continue to deepen mistrust between local communities and state authorities.
