Margaret Cho said Ellen DeGeneres wasn't nice to her for much of her career.

Washington, D.C. [US], June 23: Comedian Margaret Cho has claimed that Ellen DeGeneres treated her poorly for much of her career, despite their long-standing connection in the comedy scene. As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, Cho shared on a recent episode of The Kelly Mantle Show that, “Ellen was really weird and not nice to me for most of my career.” She mentioned opening for Ellen in the 1980s when DeGeneres was a rising comedy club headliner. However, when Cho appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show in the 2000s, Ellen acted as though they were strangers. “And I’m like, ‘Bitch, what?’ That’s weird. We go way back. It’s so creepy and weird,” Cho joked.
Cho also recalled a moment involving David Bowie. She wore a "Chinese emperor outfit" to one of his concerts, and Bowie later appeared on Ellen’s show where he reportedly praised Cho's outfit multiple times. According to Cho, the compliments were edited out of the final aired episode. “The producer, a close friend, told me, ‘I can’t believe she cut it, but Bowie kept praising your outfit. God said your name. He loves you,’” Cho said.
In 2020, Cho also spoke about the toxic workplace allegations surrounding The Ellen DeGeneres Show. On the Hot Takes & Deep Dives podcast, she remarked, “I think she’s definitely scary. I’m still scared of Ellen. Everyone should be scared of Ellen. I wouldn’t know what it’s like to work for her.” The Ellen DeGeneres Show ended in 2022 after 19 seasons, following years of criticism and controversy over workplace issues.
