Kiren Rijiju accused Congress and CPM of misleading Kerala on the FCRA Bill; Lok Sabha adjourned till noon amid uproar.

Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju on Wednesday accused the Congress and the Communist Party of misleading people in Kerala over the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2026. Amid protests by Opposition MPs, the Lok Sabha was adjourned until noon. Rijiju dismissed claims surrounding the bill as “misinformation,” stating that it is neither against any religion nor any organisation, but is intended to regulate foreign funding in the national interest. He also alleged that the Congress and Communist parties were spreading confusion in Kerala due to the upcoming assembly elections.
Addressing the Lok Sabha, Rijiju said that some Kerala MPs were under a misunderstanding and clarified that the bill had been introduced earlier, which is why it is being discussed now. He added that he had already informed senior Congress leaders that the bill would not be taken up for consideration that day.
He emphasized that the amendment aims to ensure transparency, proper utilisation of foreign funds, and national security, while preventing misuse. According to him, political parties should not mislead either Parliament or the public for electoral gains. The FCRA Amendment Bill, 2026, introduced on March 25, seeks to modify the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act, 2010, to improve accountability and transparency in foreign funding.
BJP MP Gulam Ali Khatana accused the Opposition of treating minorities as a vote bank over the years, asserting that those who operate within the law enjoy full freedom. Another BJP MP, Kamaljeet Sehrawat, said the amendments are meant to bring greater clarity and monitoring of foreign funding, adding that there is no restriction on NGOs, only clearer rules regarding their funding.
