An explosive device was reportedly thrown at the residence of BJP worker Majisha Pathayakunnu in Kadirur, Kannur district of Kerala, police said on Monday. According to officials, the incident occurred around 8:50 pm on Sunday when two unidentified individuals approached her house, verbally abused her, and then hurled an explosive that detonated with a loud noise. The FIR states that the suspects used abusive language before throwing the device.

Police in Kadirur have registered a case based on Majisha’s complaint and are working to identify those responsible. Forensic experts are examining the device to determine whether it was a firecracker or a crude country-made bomb. The incident comes as Kerala prepares for its upcoming Assembly elections. Voting is scheduled to take place in a single phase on April 9, with the counting of votes set for May 4. The current Assembly’s term will end on May 23.

The Left Democratic Front, led by the Communist Party of India (Marxist), includes parties such as Kerala Congress (M), Rashtriya Janata Dal, and the Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar). Meanwhile, the United Democratic Front comprises the Indian National Congress, Kerala Congress, and the Indian Union Muslim League. The National Democratic Alliance, led by the Bharatiya Janata Party, also includes regional parties like the Twenty 20 Party, Bharath Dharma Jana Sena, and Kerala Kamaraj Congress.
