Late-night talk show host Jimmy Kimmel, well-known for his frequent critiques of former President Donald Trump, has revealed that he has secured Italian citizenship. The revelation came during a conversation on The Sarah Silverman Podcast, according to The Hollywood Reporter. In the discussion with fellow comedian Sarah Silverman, the topic turned to how certain celebrities have considered relocating or obtaining new citizenship in light of Trump’s return to the White House. Silverman remarked that “a lot of people” she knows are actively exploring other citizenship options. Responding to her observation, Kimmel confirmed, “I did get Italian citizenship. I do have that.”

Kimmel elaborated on his feelings about the current state of politics in the United States, describing the situation as “so much worse” than expected. He argued that the political climate has deteriorated to the point where it may be “even worse than [Trump] would like it to be.” “What’s going on is… as bad as you thought it was going to be, it’s so much worse. It’s unbelievable,” Kimmel said, emphasizing his disillusionment with the present conditions.

Kimmel’s tense relationship with Trump has been well-documented over the years. On numerous occasions, Kimmel has used his platform on Jimmy Kimmel Live! to criticize Trump’s policies, leadership style, and public statements. Trump, in turn, has fired back at Kimmel through public remarks and on his Truth Social platform. One recent instance involved Trump suggesting that Kimmel’s late-night show should be cancelled, following the announcement that Late Night with Stephen Colbert would be ending next year.

While Kimmel’s decision to acquire Italian citizenship was not explicitly framed as an act of protest, it aligns with a broader trend of celebrities exploring international options amid political shifts in the United States. His comments reflect both personal dissatisfaction with the political atmosphere and a willingness to consider life beyond America’s borders.
