Lieutenant General Pratik Sharma, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Northern Command, reviewed the counter-terrorism grid in South Kashmir on Thursday. During his visit, he was briefed on the prevailing security situation, the readiness of troops, and the status of ongoing operations.

According to a post by the Northern Command on X, Lt Gen Sharma appreciated the efforts of all ranks for their determination and resilience, which reflect the Indian Army's firm commitment to maintaining peace and stability in the region. The review came amid an ongoing anti-terror operation in the Akhal Devsar area of South Kashmir’s Kulgam district, which entered its fifth day on the anniversary of the abrogation of Article 370. One terrorist has been killed so far in the encounter, which continued overnight.

The operation is a joint effort by the Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), and the Special Operations Group (SOG). The Chinar Corps, in a post on X, mentioned that troops maintained contact and responded with controlled and accurate fire throughout the night, gradually tightening the cordon around the terrorist.

Earlier, on July 30, Lt Gen Sharma visited the General Area of Dachigam in Kashmir, where he lauded the troops for the successful completion of Operation Mahadev in Lidwas on July 28. During the operation, three hardcore terrorists were eliminated, showcasing the swift and coordinated response of the security forces.
