The NT Battalion of the Indian Army’s Krishna Ghati Brigade inaugurated the second edition of the Krishna Ghati Premier Cricket League (KGPL) T20 tournament at Jhulas Ground in Poonch on Sunday. The 20-day competition will see 27 teams battle for a total prize pool of Rs 8 lakh, with Rs 3.5 lakh for the champions, Rs 2 lakh for the runners-up, and additional awards for the Man of the Tournament and Player of the Match. Each team is allowed to include three players from outside the state, including domestic and well-known cricketers.

Speaking to ANI, cricket coach Parvez Malik said, “Today, the Indian Army has organised the second edition of the Krishna Valley Premier League. A total of 27 teams from Poonch are taking part. Each team includes three players from outside the state. After Operation Sindoor, this is one of the major events organised by the Army in this border region.”

Abhinav Kaur, owner of the Krishna Ghati Tigers team, highlighted the importance of the event, noting its role in restoring confidence among residents after Operation Sindoor. “The second Krishna Ghati Premier League is underway today. I’ve been involved since the first edition. The Krishna Valley Brigade of the Indian Army has provided a great platform for our youth. After Operation Sindoor, people in border areas were fearful, but thanks to the Army’s efforts, life is returning to normal,” she said. The tournament has drawn enthusiastic participation from the public. Through the KGPL, the Army aims to foster sportsmanship, teamwork, and youth empowerment while strengthening the bond between the armed forces and local communities.
