Israel Slams Pakistan Minister's Remarks, Questions Its Role as Peace Mediator

A diplomatic row has erupted after Israel strongly criticised comments made by Khawaja Asif, calling his remarks “outrageous” and raising concerns over Pakistan’s credibility in ongoing Middle East peace efforts. The backlash came after Asif made controversial statements on social media about Israel’s actions in the region, using language that was widely viewed as inflammatory.
In response, the Israeli Prime Minister’s Office condemned the remarks, stating that calls for Israel’s destruction are unacceptable—especially from a country presenting itself as a neutral mediator. Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar also criticised the comments, describing them as “blatantly antisemitic” and reaffirming Israel’s stance that it will continue to defend itself against perceived threats.
The controversy comes at a sensitive time, as Pakistan has been playing a role in facilitating diplomatic engagement, including a temporary ceasefire between the United States and Iran. Islamabad is also expected to host further talks aimed at reducing tensions in the region. However, the latest exchange has cast doubt on its ability to act as an impartial broker.
Reports indicate that Asif later deleted the social media post following the strong international reaction, suggesting an attempt to de-escalate the situation.
The incident highlights the fragile nature of diplomatic efforts in West Asia, where rhetoric from key officials can quickly inflame tensions. As negotiations continue, the episode underscores the challenges of maintaining neutrality and trust in an already volatile geopolitical environment.
