Iranian Lawmaker Slams Pakistan US Talks Calls Them Strategic Mistake

A senior Iranian lawmaker has sharply criticised Pakistan’s diplomatic engagement with the United States, calling it a “strategic mistake” and warning that such ties could undermine regional stability.
The remarks came from Ahmad Bakhshayesh Ardestani, who argued that Islamabad’s growing alignment with Washington risks drawing it into broader geopolitical rivalries. He suggested that relying on the United States for strategic support has historically produced limited long-term benefits for countries in the region.
Ardestani said Pakistan should instead focus on strengthening cooperation with neighbouring countries, particularly regional powers, to ensure sustainable security and economic stability. He emphasised that regional challenges are better addressed through local partnerships rather than external alliances.
The comments highlight emerging tensions in regional diplomacy, especially as Pakistan continues to balance its relations between major global powers, including the United States and neighbouring countries such as Iran.
Pakistan has in recent months sought closer engagement with Washington on economic and security issues, while also maintaining ties with other allies like China and Gulf nations. However, such balancing acts have often drawn scrutiny from neighbouring countries wary of shifting alliances.
The Iranian lawmaker’s statement underscores broader concerns within Tehran about evolving geopolitical dynamics in South Asia and the potential implications for regional influence and security.
