Islamabad: Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has described his recent visit to Pakistan as “successful” and “productive,” even as diplomatic efforts between Iran and the United States remain stalled.

Araghchi said that his discussions in Islamabad focused on regional coordination and shared strategic interests, particularly in light of ongoing tensions affecting key geopolitical areas. He emphasised the importance of continued engagement between neighbouring countries to safeguard mutual interests.

The visit comes at a time when efforts to revive talks between Tehran and Washington have hit a deadlock, with both sides unable to reach common ground on critical issues such as nuclear policy and regional security. Recent attempts at mediation, including talks hosted in Pakistan, have failed to produce a breakthrough.

Despite the lack of progress on the broader diplomatic front, Araghchi’s positive assessment of his Pakistan trip signals Tehran’s intent to continue regional outreach. Pakistan has been actively trying to position itself as a mediator between the two sides, hosting negotiations and engaging with both leaderships in recent weeks.

However, the wider situation remains tense. Reports indicate that planned engagements between US and Iranian officials were disrupted, and no direct meeting took place during the Islamabad visit, further highlighting the fragility of the diplomatic process.

Araghchi’s remarks underline a dual-track approach by Iran — maintaining dialogue with regional partners like Pakistan while holding firm on its position in negotiations with the United States.

The development reflects the complex and evolving nature of Middle East diplomacy, where stalled talks coexist with ongoing regional engagements aimed at preventing further escalation.
