India has strongly criticised Pakistan at the United Nations, accusing it of “weaponising the Islamophobia narrative” to divert attention from its own internal failures and global reputation challenges.

During a sharp exchange at a UN forum, Indian representatives pushed back against Pakistan’s repeated attempts to raise concerns about Islamophobia, arguing that Islamabad is misusing the issue as a political tool rather than addressing genuine problems. India stated that such tactics are aimed at deflecting scrutiny from Pakistan’s record on extremism and governance.

Officials highlighted that instead of engaging constructively on global issues, Pakistan continues to rely on rhetoric to internationalise its narratives. India’s response underscored that raising selective concerns while ignoring domestic challenges undermines the credibility of multilateral discussions.

The remarks come amid ongoing diplomatic tensions between the two countries, where exchanges at international platforms have become increasingly confrontational. India has consistently maintained that Pakistan must focus on addressing issues within its own borders rather than projecting accusations externally.

Analysts say the latest criticism reflects growing frustration with what is seen as Pakistan’s pattern of using international forums to push politically motivated narratives. By framing complex geopolitical issues through a narrow lens, critics argue, Islamabad risks weakening the seriousness of global conversations on discrimination and human rights.

India reiterated its commitment to pluralism and democratic values, asserting that genuine concerns about discrimination should not be politicised for strategic gain. The statement also signalled New Delhi’s intent to challenge narratives it views as misleading or agenda-driven on global platforms.

The exchange at the United Nations once again highlights the deep-rooted mistrust between India and Pakistan, with both sides using diplomatic channels to counter each other’s claims. However, India’s sharp response indicates a more assertive stance against what it describes as Pakistan’s attempts to manipulate sensitive global issues for political leverage.
