India delivered a sharp response to Pakistan at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) after Islamabad raised the issue of Jammu & Kashmir during a discussion on civilian protection in conflict zones. New Delhi accused Pakistan of hypocrisy, saying a country allegedly linked to cross-border terrorism cannot lecture others on international law and civilian rights. The exchange took place during a UNSC debate where Pakistan referred to Kashmir while speaking about civilian safety and human rights. Responding strongly, India’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Parvathaneni Harish, questioned Pakistan’s credibility on the issue and accused it of maintaining a long record of supporting extremist activities.
India said it was “hypocritical” for Pakistan to invoke principles of international law while allegedly targeting civilians and backing terror networks operating in the region. The Indian envoy also highlighted recent incidents involving civilian casualties and attacks linked to terrorism, arguing that Pakistan had “no credentials” to speak on the protection of civilians.
During the remarks, India referred to recent cross-border tensions and attacks in Jammu & Kashmir, including incidents that targeted tourists and border communities. Indian officials maintained that terrorism remains the biggest threat to civilian safety in the region and stressed that countries supporting such activities should be held accountable internationally.
The Indian side also pointed to Pakistan’s alleged military actions in Afghanistan earlier this year, claiming that civilians were affected during airstrikes conducted near sensitive locations. According to India, such incidents weaken Pakistan’s position when it speaks about humanitarian concerns at global forums. Pakistan, meanwhile, continued to raise the Kashmir issue before the international community, maintaining its long-standing position that the matter requires global attention. India has repeatedly rejected third-party involvement in Kashmir, insisting that Jammu & Kashmir is an integral part of the country and that all related matters are internal.
The latest verbal clash once again highlights the continuing diplomatic tensions between the two neighboring countries. Even though India and Pakistan frequently engage in sharp exchanges at international platforms, the Kashmir issue remains one of the most sensitive subjects in bilateral relations. Analysts say such confrontations at the UN are likely to continue as both countries attempt to shape global opinion on regional security, terrorism, and human rights. However, major powers at the UN generally continue to encourage restraint, dialogue, and stability in South Asia.
The UNSC exchange also reflects how discussions around terrorism and civilian protection have increasingly become interconnected in global diplomacy. India has consistently pushed for stronger international action against terror financing and safe havens, while Pakistan continues to focus attention on Kashmir-related concerns at multilateral forums.
