Four candidates from minority communities, including two Hindus and two Buddhists, have been elected to Bangladesh’s parliament following the country’s latest general election, marking a significant moment for minority political representation. The successful candidates include Goyeshwar Chandra Roy and Nitai Roy Chowdhury, both Hindus who won parliamentary seats as nominees of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party. Roy secured victory in a Dhaka constituency, while Chowdhury won from Magura, defeating rival candidates.

Two Buddhist candidates also emerged victorious. Saching Pru, a member of the Marma ethnic community, was elected from Bandarban, while Dipen Dewan won from Rangamati, representing the Chakma ethnic minority. The election results come as the Bangladesh Nationalist Party prepares to form the next government after securing a parliamentary majority. The outcome reflects a major shift in Bangladesh’s political landscape following recent political developments and leadership changes.

According to election officials, many candidates from minority communities contested the polls, though only a small number were elected. Hindus constitute a minority in Muslim majority Bangladesh, making their representation in parliament an important issue for political inclusivity. The results highlight both the continued participation of minority leaders in Bangladesh’s democratic process and the broader political transition underway as the country prepares for a new phase of governance.
