The death of 33-year-old Twisha Sharma in Bhopal continues to raise troubling questions as fresh allegations from her mother-in-law have added another layer of controversy to the ongoing investigation. While police are probing the case as a suspected dowry-related death, conflicting claims from both families have intensified public attention around the incident. Twisha Sharma, a former Miss Pune title holder, actor, model, and digital creator, was found hanging at her husband’s home in Bhopal’s Katara Hills area on May 12. Her husband Samarth and mother-in-law Giribala Singh have been accused of murder and dowry harassment by Twisha’s family.

Speaking at a press conference on Monday, retired judge Giribala Singh claimed that Twisha had been struggling with mental health issues and was receiving psychiatric counselling. According to Singh, doctors had prescribed medicines typically used for schizophrenia-related conditions. She said the family had supported Twisha throughout her treatment and described her death as a “huge personal loss” for them.

Singh further alleged that Twisha had admitted to consuming marijuana during pregnancy and claimed the family noticed physical symptoms that she described as withdrawal-related tremors. She also stated that Twisha was part of what she called a “mental training programme” and that the family continued to support her despite repeated emotional and behavioural changes. The mother-in-law also spoke about an alleged medical termination of pregnancy. According to her, Twisha later regretted beginning the process and expressed a desire to reverse it, though Singh said that was medically impossible. She claimed Twisha completed the procedure after taking medication around May 7 and that the family stood by her during the process.

Along with these claims, Giribala Singh questioned the involvement of Twisha’s parents in her life. She alleged that they had not visited their daughter for nearly five months before her death and accused them of benefiting financially from her modelling and glamour career. Singh claimed Twisha had been pushed into the entertainment industry at a young age and was later “disowned” by her parents.

She also made remarks about Twisha’s father’s professional background, saying he had worked in the pharmaceutical industry for nearly two decades in Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. However, she added that the matter remains under judicial consideration. Twisha’s father Navnidhi Sharma has strongly rejected the allegations and accused the in-laws of mentally harassing his daughter over dowry expectations. Speaking to NDTV, he said Twisha and Samarth had first met through a dating application before both families eventually approved their marriage.

According to him, the pressure related to dowry was indirect but persistent. He claimed that after Twisha lost her job, the atmosphere in her marital home worsened significantly, with taunts and humiliating comments becoming frequent. Navnidhi Sharma described Samarth as a “wolf in sheep’s clothing” and alleged that there had been previous cases of harassment within the family involving another daughter-in-law.

Originally from Noida, Twisha Sharma had built a career in modelling and acting after entering the glamour industry between 2009 and 2012. She later won the Miss Pune title, which helped her gain opportunities in advertising, Telugu cinema, and digital media. Among her known projects were the Telugu film Mugguru Monagallu and the short film Zara Sambhal Ke released in 2018. Friends and colleagues reportedly remember her as ambitious, expressive, and determined to build an identity beyond the glamour world. The investigation into her death is still ongoing, and authorities are expected to examine all claims and evidence before reaching any conclusions.
