Donald Trump indicated that positive developments in a potential second round of peace talks with Iran could emerge as early as Friday. According to The New York Post, which cited sources in Islamabad, discussions between the two sides might resume within the next 36 to 72 hours. When asked about the possibility of a breakthrough, Trump replied in a brief text message that it was indeed possible.

Iran’s semi-official Tasnim News Agency rejected the claim, stating that no decision had been made to restart negotiations and accusing Trump of making inaccurate statements. The agency reiterated that Tehran had not committed to any talks scheduled for Friday. Trump’s remarks followed his decision to extend the US ceasefire with Iran, allowing additional time for diplomatic efforts after the earlier deadline passed without escalation. Notably, this is the first time the United States has refrained from setting a strict deadline for Iran’s next move. Trump attributed this shift in approach to consultations with Asim Munir and Shehbaz Sharif.

Trump said the US agreed to delay any military action at the request of Pakistan’s leadership, citing internal divisions within Iran’s government. He emphasized that while the US military would continue its blockade and remain prepared, the ceasefire would stay in place until Iran presents a unified proposal.

Trump had warned that military operations could resume if the ceasefire expired. Meanwhile, Sharif expressed gratitude for the extension, and António Guterres also welcomed the move. Despite ongoing uncertainty, financial markets showed optimism, rising amid hopes that diplomatic efforts could lead to a peaceful resolution.
