Delhi RK Puram Accident: 73-Year-Old Driver Held After Car Drags Parked Bike

A 73-year-old man was apprehended after his car allegedly hit a motorcycle parked on the roadside in Delhi’s RK Puram area and dragged the two-wheeler for some distance, police said. The incident took place at around 10 pm on September 17 along Africa Avenue Road, on the stretch between Bhikaji Cama Place and RK Puram Metro Station. Delhi Police received information about the accident at around 10:22 pm and sent a team to the spot.

According to police, 21-year-old Tanish Tokas, a resident of Munirka Village, was sitting on his parked black motorcycle when a blue Honda Amaze allegedly driven by Venu Gopal, a Vasant Kunj resident, collided with the bike. The impact caused Tokas to fall from the motorcycle, while the car continued moving with the two-wheeler trapped underneath. Police clarified that Tokas himself was not dragged by the car. He was subsequently taken for medical examination and did not suffer any serious injuries.

A video of the incident also surfaced, showing the motorcycle being dragged along the road and producing sparks. The footage reportedly showed people following the vehicle and stopping it. The Indian Express reported that the bike was dragged for roughly half a kilometre, while The Times of India put the distance at about 100 metres.

Following the incident, police seized the Honda Amaze and apprehended the driver. A case has been registered at RK Puram police station under Sections 281 and 125(a) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, relating to rash driving and conduct that endangers the life or personal safety of others. The driver was also medically examined, and police said no alcohol was detected during the examination. Further investigation into the circumstances of the collision is underway.
