Delhi-NCR Rain: More Showers Expected Today as IMD Issues Yellow Alert

Delhi-NCR is bracing for another spell of rain on Saturday after heavy showers on Friday caused waterlogging and traffic disruptions across several parts of the national capital and neighbouring areas. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and light to moderate rainfall at different times of the day, while a yellow alert has been issued for the region.

The latest weather forecast comes after intense rainfall disrupted normal life across Delhi and parts of the National Capital Region on Friday. Several roads and low-lying stretches witnessed water accumulation, slowing traffic and making commuting difficult for motorists and public transport users. The impact was particularly noticeable on busy routes where even short spells of heavy rain resulted in long traffic queues.

The continuing wet weather is also likely to create fresh challenges for commuters travelling between Delhi, Noida, Gurugram, Ghaziabad and Faridabad. With more rain expected, waterlogging could return to areas where drainage systems struggle to clear large volumes of water quickly. Underpasses and other low-lying roads are expected to remain particularly vulnerable during intense showers.

The IMD has forecast a generally cloudy sky over Delhi, with moderate rain likely during the day. Temperatures are expected to remain relatively moderate, with the minimum temperature around 25 degrees Celsius and the maximum close to 31 degrees Celsius. Thunderstorms with lightning and rainfall could occur during different periods, making weather conditions change rapidly.

Friday's rainfall also affected movement around Indira Gandhi International Airport, with adverse weather and water accumulation creating difficulties for air travellers. Thunderstorms can also affect flight operations, so passengers travelling through Delhi airport are likely to keep a close watch on airline updates and flight schedules.

Weather-related traffic problems have become a recurring concern in Delhi-NCR during periods of intense monsoon rainfall. While rain can bring temporary relief from high temperatures, heavy showers over a short period can place considerable pressure on the city's drainage and road infrastructure. Even when total rainfall is not exceptionally high, concentrated downpours can lead to waterlogging and significant traffic delays.

Residents have been advised to remain cautious as thunderstorms are expected to accompany some spells of rain. Commuters can reduce the risk of getting caught in severe weather by checking traffic and weather updates before beginning their journeys and allowing additional travel time. People should also avoid exposed locations, trees and areas close to electrical infrastructure during lightning and strong winds.

With the IMD warning indicating the possibility of more rain through September 5 and September 6, Delhi-NCR residents are likely to face another unsettled weather day. Authorities and commuters will be watching low-lying roads and major traffic corridors closely as the region prepares for another round of showers.
