Delhi Government Finalises Eligibility Norms for Lakshmi Yojana Ahead of Expected Launch

The Delhi government has cleared the eligibility framework for its proposed monthly financial assistance programme for women, bringing the initiative closer to its anticipated rollout around Raksha Bandhan next month. The scheme, which was earlier known as the Mahila Samriddhi Yojana, has now been officially renamed the Delhi Lakshmi Yojana. Under the programme, eligible women between the ages of 21 and 60 will receive financial assistance of ₹2,500 every month. While the eligibility conditions have now been finalised, the government is yet to announce the registration process, required documents and the official launch date.

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta shared the update through her social media accounts, saying the scheme is designed to improve women's financial security and promote their economic independence. She said the monthly assistance would help strengthen the dignity, confidence and financial empowerment of eligible women.

The Delhi Lakshmi Yojana was one of the key promises made by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) during the Delhi Assembly election campaign. After forming the government in the national capital, the BJP approved the proposal and has now laid down the rules that will determine who can receive the benefit.

According to the guidelines issued by the government, women who are already receiving a government pension or any other form of financial assistance will not be eligible for the scheme. The benefit will also not be extended to applicants whose families own a four-wheeler. In addition, women whose family members have a criminal record will not qualify for the monthly assistance. The government has not yet disclosed the complete list of documents that applicants will need to submit or the procedure for applying. These details are expected to be announced before the scheme is officially launched.

Reviewing preparations for the rollout, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta chaired a meeting at the Delhi Secretariat and instructed officials to ensure that the scheme is implemented in a transparent, efficient and time-bound manner. She stressed that the verification process should be thorough so that the financial assistance reaches only genuine and deserving beneficiaries. With the eligibility criteria now in place, the Delhi government is expected to unveil the registration process and payment mechanism in the coming weeks, paving the way for the launch of one of its flagship welfare initiatives for women.
