Delhi Chief Minister honors B. R. Ambedkar and launches water ATM facilities in Shalimar Bagh.

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Tuesday paid floral tribute to Dr. B.R. Ambedkar on his birth anniversary and inaugurated water ATMs in Shalimar Bagh, highlighting the government’s dedication to providing basic amenities and ensuring dignity for all citizens. Addressing the media, Gupta described Babasaheb as a foundational pillar of India’s democracy, stating that the country’s ability to function with a population of 140 crore rests on the strong democratic framework he helped build. She added that her government is consistently working to uplift the most disadvantaged sections of society, focusing on those who lack access to essential facilities, and creating policies that enable every citizen in Delhi to live with dignity.
She also welcomed the inauguration of the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, calling it a significant gift to the city on Ambedkar’s birth anniversary. Gupta noted that the expressway reduces travel time from 6.5 hours to just 2.5 hours, strengthening the transport system and improving connectivity.
On the occasion, the Chief Minister inaugurated water ATMs in the GP Block and Beriwala Bagh Block of the Shalimar Bagh Assembly constituency. According to the Chief Minister’s Office, the initiative is aimed at providing clean drinking water to residents, aligning with Ambedkar’s vision of making basic amenities accessible to all as a fundamental right.
Gupta further stated that seven water ATMs have been installed across wards 55, 56, and 57. Each unit can supply 2,000 litres of purified water per hour and is equipped with a five-stage RO purification system effective up to 3000 TDS. The system will be monitored круглосуточно and will provide up to 20 litres of drinking water per person daily through water ATM cards.
Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, widely known as Babasaheb, was the chief architect of the Indian Constitution and a prominent social reformer. Born into a Dalit Mahar family, he devoted his life to advocating for equality, social justice, and the rights of marginalized communities. He also served as independent India’s first Law and Justice Minister and was posthumously awarded the Bharat Ratna in 1990 for his immense contributions to the nation.
