CJP to Reach Delhi Police Station at 10 AM, Seeks Action Against Swatantra Bhardwaj

The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) is set to reach Parliament Street Police Station in Delhi at 10 am on Friday to demand action against Swatantra Bhardwaj over an alleged assault involving Sanjay Kumar, the father of student protester Nishu Azad. CJP spokesperson Saurav Das said party members would visit the police station and seek justice for Kumar. CJP co-convener Ashutosh Ranka has also appealed to members of the public to join the protest. Nishu Azad is expected to accompany her father during the visit.

The controversy stems from an incident during a CJP protest at Jantar Mantar, where Kumar was allegedly assaulted following a confrontation. The incident came back into focus after a video from a podcast featuring Bhardwaj circulated on social media. In the video, Bhardwaj appeared to discuss the confrontation and made claims about having seriously injured Kumar.

The remarks led to renewed demands for action against him, with the CJP questioning the handling of the case and calling for the police to take further steps. Delhi Police, however, has disputed claims that Kumar suffered a serious skull injury. According to the police, Kumar sustained a head injury during the scuffle and was taken to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital for medical examination. Police said the injury was caused by a metal kada and was classified as simple.

A case was registered on the basis of Kumar's complaint, and Bhardwaj and another accused, identified as Suraj Kumar, were detained and questioned, according to the police. Authorities have also rejected allegations of political interference in the case and said the investigation is being conducted according to established legal procedure. Bhardwaj has given a different account of the incident, maintaining that he acted in self-defence. He has claimed that he was surrounded by several people during the protest and feared for his safety. He has also said that video evidence is available to support his version of events.

The CJP's planned visit to the police station is expected to bring the issue back into the public spotlight. The party is demanding action against Bhardwaj, while the police investigation continues into the circumstances surrounding the confrontation at Jantar Mantar. The conflicting accounts of the incident are likely to be examined through the FIR, medical records, witness statements and video evidence as the investigation progresses.
