Campaigning for Bangladesh 13th National Election to End Ahead of February 12 Vote

Electioneering for Bangladesh’s 13th National Parliamentary Election will officially come to an end early Tuesday morning, ushering in the mandatory silence period ahead of polling scheduled for February 12.
The Election Commission said all campaign activities, including rallies, public meetings and promotional events, must stop by 7:30 am, in line with electoral rules that prohibit canvassing within 48 hours of voting. The restriction is aimed at allowing voters time to reflect before casting their ballots.
Voting will take place nationwide from 7:30 am to 4:30 pm on polling day. Authorities have stated that transparent ballot papers and boxes will be used as part of measures to ensure a credible and orderly election process.
A total of 51 political parties are participating in the polls, with 2,034 candidates contesting across 299 parliamentary constituencies. Voting in one constituency was cancelled following the death of a candidate.
To maintain order during the final phase, the Election Commission has imposed additional restrictions, including bans on campaign posters and limits on the use of mobile phones near polling stations. Security arrangements have also been tightened, with law enforcement agencies deployed nationwide to prevent disruptions.
As campaigning draws to a close, focus now shifts to polling day, when millions of voters are expected to take part in choosing the country’s next parliament, in what authorities describe as a crucial exercise in Bangladesh’s democratic process.
