Bratislava Castle was lit up in the colours of the Indian national flag on Tuesday as Slovakia welcomed Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his official visit, symbolising the strengthening cultural and diplomatic relationship between the two nations. As part of the visit, PM Modi met Dr. Robert Gafrik, the scholar leading the translation of the Upanishads into the Slovak language. The Prime Minister praised the effort, calling it an important contribution toward deepening cultural understanding and intellectual ties between India and Slovakia.

Sharing details of the meeting on social media platform X, PM Modi recalled mentioning Dr. Gafrik’s work during an earlier episode of his radio programme Mann ki Baat aired on November 24, 2024. He wrote that Dr. Gafrik’s dedication to Indian heritage, spirituality, and history was truly admirable. Ahead of International Yoga Day celebrations, PM Modi, along with Slovak President Peter Pellegrini, also watched a special yoga performance presented by Slovak schoolchildren. The Prime Minister expressed happiness at seeing young people embrace yoga and highlighted how the practice continues to connect people worldwide through health and well-being.

During his stay in Bratislava, PM Modi also visited a Varanasi-themed exhibition hosted at the Presidential Palace. The exhibition showcased artworks created by Slovak artists who had recently travelled to the Indian city. Calling it a meaningful example of cultural exchange, the Prime Minister noted that art and culture have the power to bring societies closer together.

In another post on X, PM Modi appreciated the artists and organisers behind the exhibition, describing it as a beautiful “Banaras connection” in Bratislava. The Prime Minister also held bilateral discussions with Slovak President Peter Pellegrini, where both leaders explored ways to expand cooperation in sectors such as manufacturing, transport, innovation, investment, energy, biofuels, and digital technology. The talks additionally focused on strengthening people-to-people connections between India and Slovakia.

PM Modi said the discussions reflected the vast potential for collaboration between the two countries across multiple sectors. The tricolour illumination of Bratislava Castle, along with the cultural programmes and diplomatic meetings during the visit, underscored the growing warmth and partnership between India and Slovakia.
