Tensions flared in Bangladesh’s parliament following allegations of widespread electoral irregularities in the Bogura-6 and Sherpur-3 constituencies, sparking heated exchanges between opposition and government lawmakers.

Opposition members, including leaders from the National Citizen Party and Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, accused authorities of manipulating the electoral process during the recent polls. They claimed that polling agents were forcibly removed from voting centres, with some reportedly injured during the incidents.

Lawmakers further alleged that irregular practices such as allowing underage individuals to vote and pre-arranged voting processes took place in certain centres.

According to opposition voices, these actions undermine democratic norms and risk pushing the country into deeper political instability.

The accusations triggered sharp responses from ruling party members, who rejected the claims and instead accused opposition groups of boycotting the elections after anticipating defeat. The exchanges quickly escalated, reflecting deep divisions within the political landscape.

Meanwhile, the Election Commission has acknowledged the complaints and launched an inquiry into the alleged irregularities. Officials have instructed returning officers in both constituencies to submit detailed reports, while maintaining that efforts were made to ensure free and fair voting conditions.

The elections in Bogura-6 and Sherpur-3 were closely watched, as they followed recent national polls and were seen as a test of electoral credibility. However, the controversy surrounding the voting process has once again raised concerns about transparency and trust in Bangladesh’s democratic institutions.

As investigations proceed, the political fallout from the allegations is expected to continue, further intensifying the already charged atmosphere in the country’s parliament.
