Awami League Completely Wiped Out in Bangladesh Election Says NCP Leader

Dhaka Feb 13 2026 A senior opposition leader has claimed that the Bangladesh Awami League has been completely wiped out in the latest national parliamentary election marking a dramatic shift in the country political landscape.
National Citizen Party member secretary Akhtar Hossain made the remarks after winning the Rangpur 4 constituency. He said voters had rejected not only the Awami League but also the Jatiya Party which had long held influence in the region. According to him the results reflect public dissatisfaction with parties that dominated Bangladesh politics for years.
Akhtar stated that the combined performance of opposition backed candidates across several constituencies showed a clear mandate for change. He described the outcome as a decisive verdict by the electorate and said it signaled the end of the Awami League dominance in the area.
The election comes in the backdrop of significant political upheaval following the events of 2024 which reshaped the national political environment. The Awami League did not participate formally in the polls amid controversy and legal challenges which altered the competitive dynamics of the race.
Reports of isolated irregularities and clashes surfaced in some areas during voting though election officials described overall polling as orderly. Final results in Rangpur 4 showed a close contest with Akhtar securing victory by a narrow margin.
The outcome is being viewed as a turning point in Bangladesh politics with analysts suggesting it could redefine alliances leadership structures and the broader direction of governance in the coming years.
