Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma thanked Bhutan PM Tshering Tobgay for his visit, saying it would strengthen Assam-Bhutan relations further.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday thanked Bhutan Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay for visiting Assam and said the relationship between Assam and Bhutan is expected to become even stronger in the future. Replying to Tobgay’s post on X, Sarma said Assam highly values its long-standing and multi-dimensional partnership with Bhutan. He added that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, both sides would continue working to deepen these ties in the coming years.
Tobgay shared details about his meetings with Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya and Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma during his trip to Guwahati. In his post on X, the Bhutanese Prime Minister said the discussions focused on reinforcing the close and enduring relationship between Bhutan and Assam. On Monday, Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya and Chief Minister Sarma gave a ceremonial welcome to Tobgay after he arrived in Guwahati, reflecting the strong diplomatic and cultural connection shared by Assam and Bhutan.
After reaching the city, Tobgay visited the State Guest House at Koinadhora, where he was officially received by Assam Cabinet Minister Atul Bora. Bora described the occasion as a warm and cordial reception for the Bhutanese leader. Speaking about the historic ties between the two regions, Bora said the relationship is built on mutual respect, harmony, and deep cultural links. He noted that generations of people-to-people interaction, shared traditions, and cooperation in different sectors have helped strengthen the friendship over the years.
The minister also expressed optimism that Tobgay’s visit would help expand collaboration, encourage greater cultural exchange, and create fresh opportunities for regional cooperation and economic development between Assam and Bhutan. Senior officials, including Assam Director General of Police Harmeet Singh and General Administration Department Secretary Narsing Pawar, were also present during the welcome ceremony.
